Spreading Kindness at Georgetown

This is Jingle Joy, the kindness elf.IMG_3966

She has been living in our classroom for the past week or so. Maybe your kinder has already told you about her??

Each morning the kinders looked eagerly (actually “excitedly” is a more accurate word 🙂 ) around the room to locate her hiding spot.  She was found on top of the flag, inside the empty one hundred bucket, on top of the big whiteboard and way up high on top of the cupboards.  Did you notice that she likes to climb up high?  (ha, ha).  Her main mission was to help us spread kindness to others.  Please ask your kinder to explain about our daily secret missions.  This was and still is TOP SECRET!! 🙂

It was an amazing, fun time for us to learn how to think of others during this holiday season….and always!  Have some fun spreading the Magical Reindeer Food (on your front lawn) that Jingle Joy left for each kinder. They were so excited to find her gift.  I just loved seeing their happy and (believing) faces! 🙂

Grinch Day!

“And the Grinch’s heart grew 3 sizes that day!”  What a great message we learned that when you think of others and give to them, your own heart grows more and more.

All day long, the Grinch was the theme as we worked on writing, sight words and math.  Of course, we threw in some fun of learning how to draw the Grinch, reading the book and watching the movie (the cartoon version).

Enjoy these pictures of our fun day of learning!

Learning at Home…..

As we are all aware, our school district will be learning at home through Dec. 9.  With this news, the kindergarten teachers at Georgetown have put together 2 weeks’ worth of learning packets for your kinder.  Each kinder was sent home with a learning packet for 11/18 – 11/24 and for 11/30 – 12/4.  Our goal was to give you pencil and paper tasks that will be easy for you and your kinder to maneuver through over these next 2 weeks.

Our district plan does state that some online learning will take place.  We will be using google classroom which will house all of our learning for this time.  Each kindergarten classroom has a specific classroom code.  As a parent, you will need to log into your kinder’s email to accept the google classroom invite.   Please know that each kinder does have an email and clever badge id., which is located on the back of their blue take-home folder.

Here are the links on how to log into google classroom:

Book Fair Information

Our class will have the opportunity to  “preview” the books at the book fair on Tuesday, Nov 17.  We will visit the book fair and make a wish list to bring home to parents.

On Thursday, Nov 19 we are scheduled to “buy” books at the book fair.  If you are interested in having your kinder purchase a book from the book fair and want them to do it at school, you can send in the money with your kinder’s wish list.  Please be sure to circle the title of the book and place this inside an envelope with your kinder’s name clearly marked on the outside.  There is also an option to purchase books online if you wish.  Directions came home with the book fair information.

Please reach out to me at kbohl@hpseagles.net if you have any questions.   Mrs. Bohl

To All Veterans….THANK YOU!!

Today we learned about Veterans Day.  We learned what a veteran is and why we have Veterans Day.  We also talked about what is a hero (someone who protects and keeps us safe) and listed people who we thought are heroes.

We read a sweet book entitled Hero Dad to help us learn more about what people in the military do. It was fun to make soldiers wearing camouflage.

We learned that a veteran is someone who served in the military by reading a newspaper.

Thank you to ALL veterans and active service men and women, for your service!

PE C.A.R.E.S Food Drive

The annual P.E. C.A.R.E.S food drive will be starting on November 4.

We are asking for your help by bringing in non-perishable food items for Love Inc. in Hudsonville. Food items to consider are canned vegetables and fruits, pasta, rice, baked beans, black beans, kidney beans, peanut butter, tuna fish, etc.
(please no ramen noodles & please do not break apart packaged food)

The food drive will continue until noon on Nov. 18. We will be keeping track of how many items each class brings in for the food drive. The class with the most items at the end of the day on Nov. 18 will win a P.E. C.A.R.E.S t-shirt and a bowling trip to Hudsonsville Lane (if allowed later in the year).

This is a great opportunity for our students to care for their community, to teach our kinders compassion and love for others.  Thank you for sharing in this service project with us at Georgetown..  If you have any questions please contact  Mrs. Nienhuis and Mrs. VanKoevering.
