Some Important Details…PLEASE READ!

Please take a few minutes to read the following important reminders before your kinder begins school.  I realize this posting is a bit long but please read to the end.  Thank you!! 🙂

BACKGROUND CHECK:

If you would like to attend a school event (field trip) or volunteer at school, you must complete a background check. You must complete a new background check every year.  Please do this now so that we are not scrambling to get background checks the week that you would like to volunteer.

The district has streamlined the process allowing parents to access the form online (laptop, tablet or smartphone).

To access the form online, please visit the website link here.

TRANSPORTATION:

PK and Kindergarteners must ride their assigned bus all year long.  Changes in their bus ride is not allowed.  Please do not send a note or call to ask permission for your kinder to change busses.  This is specific for kindergarteners and it is Board of Education Policy established for the safety and security of the children.

CHANGES IN GOING HOME:

We pride ourselves in making sure that all of the children are safe at school — constantly reviewing our procedures for security.  We feel the same way about the process of sending your kinder home at the end of the day.  I want to make sure that every single kinder goes home safely each day.

If there CHANGE in the plan for going home, you must contact the office or me (by email) before 2 pm on the day of the change.  You may also send a note inside your kinder’s folder.  I must hear from you by email, phone or note before 2 pm on the day of the change.  Because I am busy teaching and working with the kinder, this is my last opportunity to check email before the end of the school day.

PLEASE avoid making changes mid-day and contacting school by phone.  When the office is contacted, the classroom is interrupted by intercom to inform me of the change.  This is a disruption in our learning environment.

We understand that occasionally last minute changes do occur, however, when this becomes a pattern it is very disruptive to the classroom environment — and can cause anxiety with some children.  Limited changes means consistency which also means we are less likely to make errors.  We want your kinder to be safe and secure after school.

Also, please read the district BUS PASS policy so that you are well informed about the limits of changing busses.

ORDERING LUNCH:

You can check out the Hudsonville Food Service website (listed under the right side of our blog under “helpful links”) for payment information including the option of setting up an online lunch account (highly recommended!)  If your kinder will be having home lunch but ordering MILK, attaching a small note on the outside of their lunch box would help me SO MUCH for the first few weeks of school. This helps me and them remember they would like milk.  Thank you!

Lunch ordering is brand new for most of the kinders.  I will be helping them learn the process and soon they will be professional lunch orderers!  It will help me and them if you could have some discussion on what they are having for lunch daily (home lunch, blue or white lunch choice).

Please make sure that you send a water bottle labeled with your kinder’s name to school each day. We want to keep them hydrated. Kinders learn best when they are hydrated.  We will be taking time to have water breaks during the day. Save the juice boxes for lunch only.

STARTING SCHOOL:

The 2 name tags found inside the folder are to be worn on Day 1 (Tuesday) and Day 2 (Wednesday) of school.  Send them wearing their name tags.  My name is also on the name tags which will help get them to our classroom on these busy mornings!  I do plan to be outside the first week a few minutes before the bell rings to ease any fears. Have your kinder look for this sign, which will be outside our classroom door (facing the playground), to locate our classroom quickly.  Remember our door is in the middle and is labeled with the letter “M”.

Remember, at this age these little ones often get their cues from parents and adults around us.  If we get emotional and cry….they will too.  The more excited and reassuring you can be with your kinder the better. Routines are important so starting them on the very first day is suggested. I truly LOVE what I do and will definitely be calming any fears that may happen.   Whether it be  a loving hand to hold, distraction or hugs of reassurance.

I wish you all a VERY HAPPY last few days of summer. Feel free to contact me (kbohl@hpseagles.net) with ANY questions you have!!  Thanks again for sharing your amazing kinder with me this year!!  I will see everyone on Tuesday, August 28. Mrs. Bohl
