The Kids Heart Challenge (formerly Jump Rope for Heart) is in full swing!

Remember, more than 50% of kids are not getting the physical activity they need to be healthy. You’re helping to change that. We have a special incentive at our school. If we can get 50% of our students registered and taking the healthy challenges, we will receive an additional $500 to purchase new PE equipment.

Help us reach our goal! Get your student registered for Kids Heart Challenge today!

Celebrating Martin Luther King Jr. Day

Today, we celebrated Martin Luther King Jr Day.  We learned that he was a famous American who was known for his dream that all the people in America would learn to get along and live in peace with each other, regardless of the color of their skin.  We spent the day reflecting on Dr. King and discussing how we can continue his legacy by being kind to others.

TAKE HOME BOOKS–What a FABULOUS start!!!

THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! for being awesome supportive learning partners to your kinder.   What a great way to kick off our TAKE HOME books!  The comments you shared relating to your kinder’s reading was so informative.  I hope that you found the reading check list/comment sheet helpful as well.

Remember that the two “just right” books are at your kinder’s independent reading level.  That means your kinder should be able to read them with little or no assistance.  The other two books are one level higher, which means support may be needed to read them.

Enjoy spending this reading time with your kinder.  Please let me know if you have any questions.  Mrs. Bohl 🙂

Headphones for STEAM

HEADPHONES FOR STEAM……

Our STEAM teacher, Mrs. Totten is asking if your kinder could bring in headphones (the type you can plug into a computer) to keep at school by January 22 to use during STEAM class throughout the year.  These headphones do not need to be fancy.  Often they can be found at The Dollar Store, Dollar General or Five Below, where you can purchase them for under $5.00. Please no ear buds style.  We want  your kinder to be as  independent as possible putting them on and taking them off.  🙂

Please place the headphones inside a ziplock bag labeled with your kinder’s name. If you cannot send in headphones we do have some extra ones for them to use.  Thank you!

TAKE HOME BOOKS Program has begun!

Today your kinder was VERY excited to learn about our TAKE HOME BOOKS program.  Each kinder was given a zip-lock baggie filled with 2 books at their independent reading level and 1 book from the next level higher, bookmarks with level tips, a Super Power bookmark, a directions note and a reading checklist and comment paper.  You will find a separate detailed informational note inside of your kinder’s blue folder.  Please take a few minutes to read through this note.  It explains the TAKE HOME BOOK program and gives you tips on how you can support and assist your kinder with their reading at home.

Designate a specific time in your nightly routine to snuggle with your kinder as you support them in becoming the reader and you are the listener.  Please keep these books at home, reading them many times throughout the week and return ALL of the books and materials inside the baggie to school every Wednesday.  We will exchange the “old books” for new books which will be sent home on Thursday.

If you have any questions, please contact me at kbohl@hpseagles.net. This is an exciting time, watching your kinder explore and emerge themselves in books, as the world of reading opens up to them.

School begins again Monday, Jan 4!

Welcome back to school and Happy New Year!

I am looking forward a great start to 2021 at school on Monday. I can not wait  to see all of my kinders again.  I missed my morning hugs. 🙂

It is January, it is winter and there is snow.  Remember the bus ride to and from school can be cold.  The wind chill can fluctuate throughout the day.  If the wind chill warms to above O, we will go outside to play for recess.  So PLEASE SEND SNOW PANTS, BOOTS, HATS, MITTENS to school each day with your kinder.  This way they will be prepared and will stay warm playing outside. Don’t forget to label their clothing.

Enjoy the rest of the break, pack your kinder’s backpack with….

  • 2 masks (please make sure that they fit properly…covers both mouth and nose)
  • daily blue folder
  • library book
  • 2 healthy snacks and a water bottle
  • a home lunch or a decision made for hot lunch (January lunch menu)

In the morning, give your kinder an extra hug while preparing them for making good choices and working hard at school again.  I will see them Monday morning!  The heat has been turned down at school during vacation so dress your kinder in warm layers as the school may be chilly before it warms up.  Enjoy the weekend! 🙂

Hugs, Mrs. Bohl
